“The Cutler and Gross customer has always been an individual. Eccentric maybe, but a rare breed, certainly.”

Graham Cutler

With Graham Cutler’s words in mind, it’s worth remembering that face shape guides for glasses and sunglasses are general recommendations and not hard and fast rules.

However, we know how important it is to understand your face shape when choosing glasses to complement your features. One on the most common face shapes is round, which in turn makes it relatively easier to pair with a wide range of glasses.

What are the characteristics of a round face?

You’ll have fuller cheeks, a rounded chin and wide forehead of equal length. You might describe yourself as having ‘soft’ features, whereas other face shapes might have more angular or distinctive facial characteristics such as a pronounced chin or jawline.

For rounder faces, we recommend looking for sharper frames which contrast to your face’s natural curves and provide added dimension and structure. Cat eye, Square or Rectangle glasses or sunglasses with bold silhouettes are great for this. The particularly sharp and sweeping cat eye 9288 does this well.

Natsko (pictured) wears the GR02 Optical in Multi Yellow, this angular frame with a pronounced nose bridge from the The Graham Cutler Collection complements the softer contours of her face.

Frames with straight brow lines such as the 1394 or 1319 are good for sectioning softer faces into two distinctive halves.

People often think that they have a round face, when they actually have a different face shape. See our expanded Face Shape Guide for style recommendations based on your facial characteristics.
