Toronto Window Artists

Window Installation by Mathew Struk, July 2023

Cutler and Gross are proud to collaborate with local Toronto creatives in the Window Artists Series. From emerging names to industry heavyweights, their bold conceptions encourage us to see the world through a different lens.

Introducing the latest Window Artist: Matthew Struk

Artist Matthew Struk created our latest window installation from a compilation of 12 lino-cut prints. Rendered in saturated hues of pink, purple, blue and black, the artworks tell a story of summer sights. A stylised sun is nestled next to a bespectacled profile and a cherry-topped ice cream. Strung together one on top of the other, the artworks move and shift throughout the day.

Struk is a Canada-based visual artist born in Northwestern Ontario, where he’d occasionally spy the Aurora Borealis at night. The natural world and local folklore inspire his work, which encompasses everything from illustrations and collages to paintings and photography.

Alisa McRonald

Four Eyes by Alisa McRonald, May 2023

“Four Eyes” by textile artists Alisa McRonald, is inspired by handmade quilts and Afghans, crafted using a rug making technique that allows Alisa to ‘paint’ with yarns. Consisting of large and small woven pieces that embody her personal obsession with eyewear, each piece features abstract faces wearing interesting and fantastical eyeglasses, all created using up-cycled and reused yarn. Her textiles are reminiscent of handmade items that have been passed down through family, and share a feeling of nostalgia and comfort.

Alisa is a nationally, and internationally exhibited artist, her work has been featured in several publications including Harper’s Bazaar Japan, Untitled, Giant Robot Magazine, and “By Hand: The Use of Craft in Contemporary Art” (2006, Princeton Architectural).
