OCT Scan: What To Know

Cutler and Gross eye examinations in the UK include an Ocular Coherence Tomography scan (commonly called an OCT scan). An OCT scan enables optometrists to analyse the different layers of the retina, and in so doing gives them a clear understanding of your eye health.

The non-invasive scan takes mere seconds. It uses light to capture over one thousand images of the back of the eye, including the optic nerve, creating a 3D picture. Our optometrists are then able to look deep within the eye’s structure and spot any abnormalities.

Conditions such as glaucoma can be detected up to four years earlier with an OCT scan than traditional imagery methods. An optometrist can also spot eye conditions including diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration before any symptoms are present.

Your optometrist will keep your results on file, enabling them to monitor subtle changes when you next return for your eye test. Available in our New York and UK stores, find out more about our cutting-edge and comprehensive eye examinations here.
