After-Hours Session Vol. 4

We approached DJ Tom Ravenscroft to create volume 4 of the After-Hours sessions. From 90s grunge to contemporary electronica, Ravenscroft is famed for his deft ability to weave together disparate sounds into a unique mix. He’s had sets at the likes of Glastonbury and Field Day, and currently presents a Friday night show on BBC Radio 6 Music.

We asked Ravenscroft to share his thoughts and experiences around the After Party.

CG: How would you describe your musical style?

TR: I enjoy spending pretty much all my hours searching for things I’ve not heard before that have the ability to fill me with joy. I feel very lucky to be able to share these discoveries with people on the radio or in nightclubs.

CG: Our latest collection is inspired by the After Party – a space where ideas, music and conversations are exchanged. Has this been your experience?

TR: I’ve always been very happy for someone else to take over choosing the music in these environments. It’s a nice opportunity to listen to things you perhaps wouldn’t normally be drawn to.

CG: Tell us about a particularly memorable After Party you’ve attended.

TR: All a bit of haze really, never entirely sure where I am. Am quite happy to be led from place to place.

CG: What’s the key to a great After Party?

TR: Good music obviously, plenty of drink and easy-going neighbours.

The Inspiration

The methodology and magic of after parties in the late 80s inspired our latest collection. During the twilight hours, the pace of the club was replaced with cataclysmic conversation. Lit by the afterglow of neon lights and soundtracked by a hand-picked playlist, this dialled-down space sparked fresh dialogue. Ideas emerged; new records were discovered.

This was the utopia of the After Party.
